Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation Review

From time to time I fancy a little break from my outfit posts, where I take the time to share with you my latest finds in the world that is beauty.
I am quite the snob when it comes to foundation and have turned my nose up to a fair few high street ‘holy grails’ for the likes of my favourites Esteé Lauder, NARS and Illamasqua. However every now and then I find myself roaming the aisles in Boots, on the hunt for a new discovery, something that will surprise me.  So just before Christmas I took a trip to pick up a few lipsticks from Rimmel and whilst I was there this little blue lidded bottle kept staring at me...

Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation – with advanced smart-tome technology promises traceless, flawless coverage that conceals imperfections and leaves no trace of that dreaded foundation line. It’s enhanced with sapphire radiance for an illuminating finish and states that it will last all day.

Now, that’s quite the statement from a high street brand and it’s offering rather a lot for it’s £6.99 price tag. I was intrigued but certainly dubious – after trying out their Wake Me Up foundation last summer I was hugely disappointed (that’s a story for another time), so I was reluctant to try another from them on that basis. Regardless, I made the purchase and the question is...what’s it really like?
In a word? Fan-bloody-tastic. I am honestly blown away with this foundation – it pretty much matches the coverage I get from my Esteé Lauder double wear, whilst giving the luminosity of my Illamasqua Skin Base which is quite the task. I have a super duper oily t-zone so anything that promises to illuminate my face I usually steer well clear of as it 9/10 results in a foundation landslide on my face after an hour or so of wear. But the staying power of this foundation really is impressive; no congealing, caking or slipping after a full days wear – I was shocked to say the least, but very happy indeed. It’s a full coverage foundation, but definitely buildable – the pump applicator means less mess, no waste and the glass bottle gives a higher end feel. I’ve gone for the shade Ivory which I believe is the second from lightest; it matches my skin almost perfectly and blends beautifully with my Real Techniques expert face brush. The consistency is reasonably fluid so a little does go a long way – I’m currently using one and a half pumps to cover my entire face. I loved it so much that I persuaded my mum and sister to make the purchase; Lily is the lightest shade (centre of pic) and mum the one up from me (left), so you can see the change is quite significant in the three shades.

For such a reasonable price, lovely packaging and wonderful coverage I’ll definitely be purchasing this again. It’s going to be my day-time foundation for the foreseeable future and has opened my eyes to the possibilities with high street brands. Big thumbs up Rimmel!
If you fancy giving it a whirl you can purchase it here and I'd love to know your thoughts if you've already tried it :)

Ooh now I'm intrigued! I've used MAC Mineralize foundation for the past 3 years, but anything with a cheaper price tag is worth a try by me!

I've never really got on with Rimmel face products - the ones every seems to love like the 'wake me up' concealer and 'stay matte' powder just don't sit that well on my skin, but after reading this I might give this foundation a try (: great post (:

Oh no, that's such a shame! Maybe pick up a little tester first if you can? Although, their products don't exactly break the bank do they? You could always chuck it on Ebay if you hated it! Wishing you luck :) xx

Wow you've really persuaded me to give this foundation a whirl, I love Rimmel so much!

glad it works so well for you! im the opposite tbh, i really like the wake me up foundation and concealer (in summer when im not quite so ghostly pale!) but didnt like match perfection at all. i found it too tacky and not enough coverage for my skin.

currently switching between the old classics of revlon colorstay (which i prefer in normal/dry, even though im very oily skinned) and estee lauder double wear. finding revlon easier to wear as the weather gets colder, more forgiving on dry patches and gives a nice luminosity to the skin and doesnt need touching up all day. if you havent, try it!

Oog, I think I will definitely give the revlon colourstay a try - it sounds perfect for me! Thank you! xx

With this does it work well with your mum and sister? I always read good reviews but the person normally has different skin type to mine so it's not as good as expected *sigh*
What's their skin like, and does it work for them?
    Looks lovely on you! xx

Hi Lovely, my sister has an oily t-zone and dry patches like me and she loves it. Mum obviously has mature skin and has really loved the finish! Hope that helps :) xx

This is one of my favourite foundations, especially because they do a super pale shade (010 light porcelain) which is perfect for me as I've never found a drugstore foundation that matches my skin that well. The bargain price is also a bonus for a uni student like me!

I have heard such amazing reviews about this foundation but keep purchasing my trusty clinique one, but if it's as good as you say it is then I'll have to give this one a try as soon as mine runs out. Thank you for the review, and you are extremely beautiful by the way, I adore your hair colour too :) xx

Awe thank you so much lovely. I use the Clinique anti-blemish foundation too, but find it can be a bit dull at times..this one is the perfection combination of dewy and matte! x

I'm so tempted to get this but Rimmel foundations break me out like no tomorrow!

I've wanted to try this foundation for a really long time! I've tried samplers of it from a magazine and was quite impressed with it! Im currently using the no7 essentially natural foundation which I need to finish before buying this.

I wanted Wake Me Up to work so badly I bought a second bottle after the first one I tried didn't match my skin tone at all. Unfortunately I realised the whole range was far too pink-toned for me! :( I'm really tempted to get the Match Perfection after reading your review. But do you know if its more yellow-toned than Wake Me Up?
