What I Got For Christmas 2013

This year, Christmas was a little different to the usual - it was the first time I’d ever been away from my family and the first ever Christmas in our own home. It certainly felt special, even if it was a little bit odd to just be the two of us. We didn’t feel quite ready to host Christmas ourselves, so we woke up, exchanged our gifts and got ready to face the day; carting ourselves around visiting as many family members as we could, together. It was so lovely and one of my favourites Christmases to date.

When you get to my age (that makes me sound ancient, I’m not), you don’t really need anything. Gone are the days of hand scribbled, book length Christmas lists - if we need something we buy it, simples. However this year when the question was asked ‘what do you want?’, there was definitely a running theme...House stuff.
Since moving in to our home we’ve filled it with all the necessities, you know like a bed, sofa and washing machine but it has been missing that personal touch. Moving house costs such a lot of money, especially when you have to buy everything from scratch – so some much needed nick-nacks to make a house feel like a home were what we truly wanted.
I’ve taken a few snaps of my favourite gifts, but if you’d like to see everything I received you can find it all over on my YouTube channel, along with a lengthily ramble (of course).

I’m particularly nosy for this kind of thing, so if you’ve put together a video or a blog post on what you got for Christmas I would really love to see it!

It sounds like you had a lovely Christmas! I really enjoyed reading this post and watching the video. Your gifts are all gorgeous - my favourites are the sweetie jar and candle snuffer, though I found it hard to decide! I think it was a wonderful idea to ask for gifts to make your house a home. I can't wait until I can do something similar :)

I recently did a similar post but after seeing this I really need to work on my design and photography skills!

    Happy new year : )

Really enjoyed this video, and I love this post! I've found 'What I got for Christmas'-type posts really hard to photograph in the past, but this is spot on. And that sweetie jar! Perfection!

My Christmas presents this year were definitely a lot more home focused too, it's nice to receive lots of little bits that, like you say, make a house a home. I'll ignore the fact my parents put money towards a fridge freezer, I guess you need the practical (and boring!) things too!
